The Valley of Prosperity: A Bitcoin Tale for Kids

Arkadiusz Blazyca has written a new children’s book with the intention of teaching readers about the power of choice. He emphasizes that money not only serves as a means of exchange but also affects the quality of our lives. Blazyca believes that education about good money should be included in the home curriculum, making it an important resource for both children and adults. The book, which is suitable for children aged 6 and above, uses a friendly dragon theme to explain Bitcoin and its relevance in a concise 57 pages, beautifully illustrated by Ewelina Oleksiak.

Bitcoin, while a relatively new concept since its inception in 2008, is built upon the foundation of money that has existed for thousands of years. The book explores the origin of money, the concept of the gold standard, the replacement of fiat currencies, the value of anonymity, and the importance of decentralization. Set in a prosperous valley ruled by a benevolent king, the story introduces the significance of money through the presence of friendly dragons that resemble Falkor from The NeverEnding Story.

However, the peaceful era comes to an end when the king’s evil and lazy son takes over, introducing money not backed by gold and causing hyperinflation. Blazyca cleverly incorporates elements such as a central bank digital currency (CBDC) and references to U.S. President Richard Nixon to highlight the drawbacks and criticisms of such monetary policies. In the midst of this turmoil, a wise anonymous figure introduces Bitcoin as a solution to the corrupted money system.

While the book aims to summarize the history of money and explain Bitcoin, it may be challenging for some children to fully grasp. The intricate details of the monetary world and complex terminologies like ledgers, inflation, and digital money may require adult guidance. However, this presents an opportunity for meaningful discussions between parents and children about the history of money and its evolution. It is important to note that the book does not provide practical use cases of Bitcoin, so it may be insufficient as a guidebook for understanding the cryptocurrency.

Overall, “Dragons and the significance of money” is a recommended read for parents who want to introduce their children to Bitcoin and the history of money in a fun and engaging way. Additionally, it serves as a concise summary for adults who may not have a complete understanding of these concepts themselves.
