Tether’s New Educational Arm: Fuelling Educational Initiatives
Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, has announced the creation of Tether Edu, an educational branch that will provide courses, workshops, and resources for skills development in blockchain technology and other digital fields. Tether Edu aims to create a “smart education environment” in collaboration with experts and pioneers in the industry. The focus will be on emerging markets in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, and Asia, covering not only blockchain but also design, artificial intelligence, and coding.
In addition to its core educational offerings, Tether Edu will also coordinate the company’s existing educational initiatives. This includes partnerships with the Academy of Digital Industry in Georgia and crypto exchange Bitkub in Thailand, as well as sponsoring the Plan B Summer School in Switzerland. The CEO of Tether, Paolo Ardoino, emphasized the importance of education as a catalyst for economic history and hinted that some of the educational material may require payment.
While Tether enters the educational field, it faces competition from other cryptocurrency firms that already offer educational resources. These resources range from online guides to comprehensive courses in XRP Ledger programming and targeted programs like Trezor’s initiative in West Africa. There are also paid certification courses provided by organizations like the Blockchain Council and the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals.
Blockchain education is also becoming increasingly common in universities worldwide, driven by the demand for workers with blockchain skills. Tech giants such as IBM, Oracle, Cisco, Amazon, and Google, as well as companies in heavy industry, are actively seeking individuals with blockchain expertise. Major universities like MIT, the University of Oxford, and Harvard University, along with local institutions, now offer blockchain-related courses. To further broaden their reach, universities often partner with online course providers like Coursera, which offers a wide range of blockchain courses from universities and corporations, both free and at a reasonable cost.
With 832 courses in “Blockchain,” including advanced level options, available on Coursera alone, the educational landscape for blockchain technology is vast and diverse. Tether Edu aims to carve out its place in this field by offering tailored resources and focusing on emerging markets, making blockchain education more accessible and helping individuals acquire the skills needed for this rapidly growing industry.
