MapleStory Joins Avalanche: Enhancing Korean MMORPG Gaming

MapleStory, an MMORPG developed by Nexon, is expanding its gaming experience to the Avalanche blockchain. This move, known as “MapleStory N,” will allow the game to utilize the Avalanche subnet on the blockchain’s cloud network. By doing so, MapleStory will not require a separate implementation partner, providing more convenience, support options, and a quicker time to market. Players will have the opportunity to create new worlds and add their own unique touch to the MapleStory Universe.

The partnership with Avalanche will help MapleStory build a stable and complete blockchain ecosystem. This will enable them to securely service various dApps and amplify their competitiveness. Angela Son, MapleStory Universe’s partnership lead, expressed excitement over the partnership, highlighting the ability to provide a secure and complete blockchain experience.

Since its creation in 2003, MapleStory has gained immense popularity in the Asia-Pacific region, boasting over 180 million registered players. In an effort to enhance the in-game experience, MapleStory Universe has integrated nonfungible tokens (NFTs). These tokens allow players to have a more personalized and unique experience within the game. To achieve this, MapleStory’s parent company, Nexon, chose the Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Polygon on March 22, 2023. Polygon Labs will deploy a supernet within MapleStory, allowing players to earn and collect in-game items as NFTs.

The Avalanche network has gained significant traction in 2024, attracting partnerships with notable financial players like JPMorgan and Citi. These traditional institutions have joined forces with the Avalanche Foundation for real-world asset tokenization initiatives and technological deployments on the Avalanche blockchain. This recognition and collaboration with established institutions have contributed to the growing popularity and adoption of the Avalanche network.

Avalanche’s inscription tokens have received significant attention, with over 100 million Avalanche inscriptions minted since their creation in 2023. This surge in user interest is due, in part, to the hype surrounding Bitcoin BRC-20 inscription tokens.
