Bitcoin Emoji Movement Gains Support from Crypto Giants

Crypto platform Nexo and more than 35 prominent organizations in the cryptocurrency space have come together to advocate for the creation of an official Bitcoin emoji. The initiative, called “Bitcoin Deserves an Emoji”, aims to gather 50,000 endorsements worldwide. Within just one week of launching, over 10,000 individuals have already signed the petition, which was directed towards the Unicode Consortium, the organization responsible for standardizing emojis across different platforms. Noteworthy organizations supporting the campaign include Brink, Bitget, Chainalysis, Kraken, Polygon, Brave, and BTC Inc.

Kosta Kantchev, co-founder and executive chairman of Nexo, emphasized that the dominance and widespread adoption of Bitcoin make it necessary for the cryptocurrency to be represented by a unified symbol on all keyboards. With over 1.26 billion Bitcoin addresses and a large community of professionals and tech pioneers, Kantchev believes that the Bitcoin Emoji is long overdue. The push for a Bitcoin emoji serves not only as a symbolic gesture but also reflects the unity and determination of the crypto community to promote the global adoption of Bitcoin.

The initiative draws inspiration from previous campaigns for emojis, such as Taco Bell’s campaign for a taco emoji and Tinder’s advocacy for an interracial couple icon. By utilizing the momentum generated by these campaigns, the Bitcoin Deserves an Emoji initiative aims to prompt action from Unicode. Eleonor Genova, the head of communications at Nexo, describes the campaign as the “heartbeat of a global movement” that resonates with the dreams of a vast community. An emoji for Bitcoin would not only symbolize its legitimacy but also serve as a crucial tool for education and mainstream acceptance.

The initiative is not just about representing the crypto community but also propelling Bitcoin’s impact on the world, democratizing its presence, and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation among a global audience. While traditional currencies have their emoji counterparts, the cryptocurrency realm, especially Bitcoin, remains devoid of such representation. As Bitcoin gains prominence in mainstream discourse, its influence extends beyond the realm of cryptocurrency. Genova envisions Bitcoin having its own emoji symbol, living across billions of screens worldwide.

She believes that it is the collective responsibility of the industry to champion this cause and ensure that every Bitcoin user benefits from this representation. It is time to acknowledge Bitcoin for what it truly is—a culture, not just a passing trend. The push for an official Bitcoin emoji comes at a time when the cryptocurrency has recently reached an all-time high and the community anticipates its fourth halving event, scheduled for later this month.
