Manchester City’s Digital Collectibles Partnership with Quidd

Manchester City Football Club, a prominent team in the Premier League, has formed a partnership with Quidd, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, to create and release digital collectibles. This collaboration will also involve the development of new promotions and fan experiences. Quidd will be responsible for producing “special edition” digital collectibles, such as cards, which will grant fans access to real-world experiences. Tom Boyle, Vice-President of Global Partnerships Marketing and Operations at City Football Group, expressed his excitement for this partnership in a blog post, stating that they are eager to revolutionize the world of football cards and collectibles in the digital age.

The first product resulting from this partnership will be a series of 200 customized digital player cards, which will be available for purchase or launch on May 2. The first 10,000 fans, known as “Cityzens,” to buy packs will receive two exclusive “For the Fans” packs. Cityzens who unlock digital rewards through Quidd packs will have the opportunity to participate in real-world events and acquire official Manchester City merchandise, hospitality tickets, and unique experiences. These experiences may include watching a training session at the City Football Academy, which would otherwise be inaccessible.

Manchester City has been actively involved in the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as well. They recently launched the “Unseen City Shirts” NFT collection on the OKX blockchain. This collection consists of a limited number of NFTs that are linked to physical jerseys adorned with hand-painted artwork. The club teamed up with Sony to create a virtual rendition of their home field, Etihad Stadium, within the metaverse. This virtual stadium is reportedly the first officially licensed football stadium in the metaverse.

Other football clubs are also exploring the potential of cryptocurrencies for their future development. The Winklevoss twins, famous for their involvement in Bitcoin, recently invested $4.5 million in Bitcoin podcast host Peter McCormack’s Real Bedford Football Club. This investment will contribute to the club’s Bitcoin treasury, signaling the twins’ confidence in both Bitcoin and the club’s chances of reaching the Premier League in the future.
