Ubisoft’s New Blockchain Game Tease
Ubisoft, a major game studio, is getting closer to releasing its first blockchain-based game called Champion Tactics Grimoria. The gameplay trailer for the game was unveiled during Paris Blockchain Week. The RPG allows players to create blockchain-based figurines with unique features and combine them into teams of three for turn-based battles. The game features high-quality graphics and animations, maintaining the polish and feel of a typical Ubisoft title. Players will need to strategically select heroes that complement and counter their opponents’ choices.
Nicolas Pouard, the Vice President of Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab, stated that the studio took a patient approach to developing a blockchain game. Rather than starting with a AAA title, they decided to test the waters with Champions Tactics. Ubisoft adopted a different approach compared to other developers by initially creating a universe around the assets and nonfungible tokens that are fundamental to the game. The gameplay revolves around champion figurines with different skills and abilities. Similar to DOTA, certain champions work well with specific classes and specs and counter the opponents’ chosen figurines in turn-based matches.
During the Paris event, Ubisoft and Oasys, the gaming blockchain protocol on which the game is built, provided a firsthand look at the gameplay. They also announced a whitelist, which allows prospective players to start creating figurines for their champion roster. Pouard emphasized that Ubisoft’s goal is not solely driven by financial motivations but to demonstrate their ability to release a high-quality Web3 game that offers players true ownership of digital assets. They want players to understand the significance of owning their gaming assets and how it impacts the market.
Oasys, in addition to the game announcement, revealed a new integration with the omni-chain interoperability protocol LayerZero. This is part of their 2024 Dragon Update, which aims to enhance interoperability across their gaming ecosystem. This integration marks a significant step in their progress.
Ubisoft is making strides in their development of a blockchain-based game. With the release of Champion Tactics Grimoria, they aim to prove their ability to create a quality Web3 game that empowers players and grants them true ownership of digital assets. Through strategic gameplay and unique figurines, players will have an immersive and interactive experience in this turn-based RPG.

Ubisoft’s focus on true ownership of digital assets is a game-changer. It’s great to see them empowering players in this way.
I’m excited to see how Ubisoft’s blockchain-based game will revolutionize the gaming industry. This is the future!
I love that Ubisoft is creating a universe around the assets and nonfungible tokens. It adds depth and immersion to the game. 🌌🎨
Why would I want true ownership of digital assets in a game? It’s just a game, not real life. Ubisoft, you’re overthinking this. 🤷♀️
I don’t understand the obsession with blockchain games. It feels like a gimmick to me. 😑
Turn-based battles? Seriously? Ubisoft, you’re better than this. I’m disappointed.
The integration with LayerZero is a game-changer for Oasys and brings exciting possibilities for their gaming ecosystem. 🌐✨
Ubisoft’s decision to start with Champions Tactics rather than a AAA title is a smart move. It allows them to explore the potential of blockchain gaming.
