Anthropic Introduces Claude AI Chatbot in Europe with Amazon’s Backing
Anthropic, an AI developer, has announced that its AI chatbot Claude is now available in Europe. The chatbot is accessible through its web application and iOS app in multiple European languages. Claude 3, the company’s most powerful system, which can analyze images, was launched in the United States in March 2024. Previously, Europeans could only access the chatbot using a virtual private network (VPN). The availability of Claude in Europe follows the launch of the Claude API earlier this year, allowing developers to integrate Anthropic’s AI models into various applications, websites, or services.

Anthropic was established in 2021 by former members of OpenAI. The company has received investments from major tech players, including a $4 billion investment commitment from Amazon in September 2023 and a $2 billion commitment from Google the following month. On April 5, Anthropic launched a beta feature called “tool use” for the Claude suite of generative AI models. This feature allows real-time information lookup, access to third-party features, and integration into Claude’s workflow. Users can insert code snippets into their accounts to enable Claude to bring in external information during conversations.
