ARK Invest Bets $60M on Musk’s AI Venture
ARK Invest, the investment management firm spearheaded by veteran investor Cathie Wood, has recently announced its acquisition of a stake in Elon Musk’s latest AI startup. On May 28, ARK Invest informed its clients through an email about this significant investment in xAI. According to Bloomberg, ARK’s Chief Futurist Brett Winton specified that the stake represents roughly 2% of the fund’s overall holdings. Winton highlighted the strategic advantage xAI has, citing its access to X’s distribution network and real-time data, bolstered by Musk’s relentless focus on rapid development.
Earlier in the month, specifically on May 10, X introduced AI-curated audiences. This new feature allows advertisers to precisely define their target demographic, with X’s AI then generating relevant user groups based on this data. The investment in xAI is yet another step in ARK Invest’s recent string of AI-related ventures. Just last month, ARK disclosed that 4% of its entire portfolio is invested in OpenAI, the brain behind ChatGPT, and 5% is committed to Anthropic, the company responsible for the Claude AI model. Brett Winton has expressed strong confidence in AI foundation models, predicting they will be valued in the “multiple trillions of dollars” by the decade’s end.
