CEO’s Take on Ethical Token Distribution in Uniswap

Hayden Adams, the founder and CEO of Uniswap, has expressed his opinion on the ethics of token distribution. This comes after the crypto community raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of token distribution on EigenLayer. Adams clarified that he was specifically discussing tokens, not points, in his post.

Adams criticized the practice of teasing and creating ambiguity during token distribution to artificially boost engagement metrics. He advised against public speculation, especially when the team is uncertain about future developments. Teasing without plans to disclose the details of token distribution was also discouraged.

Some users who felt left out of the recently announced EigenLayer airdrop expressed their discontent with the restaking protocol. They highlighted the nontransferable token structure, strict geographical restrictions, and a seemingly short snapshot period. Adams strongly disapproved of low float tokens, considering them to be malicious and his biggest pet peeve.

Adams believes that tokens can be effectively distributed without relying on exchanges or market makers. He argues that tokens should be distributed openly to allow for genuine price discovery on decentralized exchanges. He also criticized the practice of creating an excessively high token supply to exploit people’s unit bias, stating that it is unnecessary.

Token distributors were advised against being too conservative and encouraged to make a substantial portion of their tokens available for distribution. Adams cautioned against inadequate token distribution if the issuer does not believe the community deserves it. He also emphasized the importance of not revealing token prices during or before distribution, as it raises suspicions about prioritizing quick wealth over building real value.

Token issuers and distributors were urged to maintain a straightforward distribution process to address concerns raised by recent industry scams. Transparency and thoughtfulness about their projects were emphasized by Adams. He stressed the need for issuers to release a token they can be proud of and stand behind to avoid ridicule within the crypto community.

EigenLayer, an Ethereum restaking protocol, distributed an additional 28 million EIGEN tokens to over 280,000 wallets after its initial airdrop. This was prompted by user concerns over the program’s restrictions.
