Pudgy Penguins CEO: 1 Million Plushies Sold in 12 Months!
Over the past year, the CEO of the nonfungible token (NFT) project Pudgy Penguins, Luca Schnetzler, has revealed that they have sold more than a million Pudgy Penguin toys. This surge in sales has led to the expansion of the project into retailers worldwide. It’s a surprising success for a project featuring fat flightless birds, as Schnetzler expressed. Recently, Pudgy Toys with Pudgy World became available at Target, a major retail giant in the United States. The popularity of the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection, which was created in 2021 and consists of 8,888 colorful penguin avatars, has grown despite facing some controversy at its inception.
Schnetzler took over the brand in 2022, purchasing it for $2.5 million, and has since managed to increase its success. In addition to the NFT versions, stuffed toy versions of the Pudgy Penguins are now for sale at Walmart, contributing to the project’s rising sales. One unique aspect of the Pudgy Penguin model is that NFT holders can earn 5% royalties on the net revenues from sales of the physical products that feature their specific Pudgy Penguin.
The OpenSea NFT marketplace reports that the floor price for the NFT versions of the Pudgy Penguins is currently 12.87 ETH, which is equivalent to approximately $37,580 at current prices. The most expensive Pudgy Penguin NFT sale recently was Penguin #6873, which sold for an impressive 400 ETH, equivalent to around $1.17 million.
Sales activity for the Pudgy Penguins collection reached its peak in mid-February, with 439 sales per day at an average price of 20 ETH. Since then, sales volumes have slightly declined, with around 269 sales per day as of May 6. According to CryptoSlam, a platform that tracks NFT sales, Pudgy Penguins is currently the twelfth highest-selling NFT collection in terms of secondary sales over the past seven days, with a total value of $2.2 million. The highest-selling NFTs overall are the Uncategorized Bitcoin Ordinals, and the most popular collection is CryptoPunks.
