US Navy Introduces ‘PARANOID’ Blockchain Tech to Private Sector
The United States Navy is actively looking for partners from the private sector to join in a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA). This partnership aims to further progress their proprietary blockchain technology known as PARANOID. PARANOID, which stands for Powerful Authentication Regime Applicable to Naval Operational Flight Program Integrated Development, is designed to enhance software security against cyberattacks during its development and deployment phases.
The Naval Air Warfare Center’s Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) based in Lakehurst, New Jersey, is the mastermind behind PARANOID. Originally created to secure avionics software specifically for the U.S. Navy, the technology’s potential was quickly recognized to extend beyond military applications to any software development project where security is essential. PARANOID offers robust protection by verifying files across multiple nodes at every stage of development through a blockchain framework.
In essence, every action performed by a developer is recorded as an entry on the PARANOID blockchain, thus creating an immutable ledger of activities. This ensures that if malicious actors attempt to alter, replace, or delete code or files, such unauthorized changes would be detected when verified against the unalterable database.
The system’s advantages have caught the attention of TechLink, the U.S. Department of Defense’s technology transfer partner.
